ବେଳେବେଳେ କିଛି କରିବାକୁ ଭଲ ଲାଗେନି, ଲାଗେ ଦୁନିଆରେ ସବୁଠୁ ଏକେଲା ହେଉଛି ମୁଁ, ଜୀବନର କିଛି ମୂଲ୍ୟ ହିଁ ନାହିଁ, ଏମିତି ଖାଲି ଗୋଟିଏ କଟେଇଦେବା କଥା । ଏମିତି ବହୁତ ଥର ମନକୁ ଆସେ, ସେହି ସମୟରେ ମୁଁ ମଧୁବାବୁଙ୍କଦ୍ୱାରା ରଚିତ ନିମ୍ନ କବିତାଟିକୁ ପଢ଼େ । ଏହାର ଅର୍ଥ ଲୋକ ହିସାବରେ ନିଜ ନିଜ ମତ ଅନୁଯାୟୀ ଅଲଗା ଅଲଗା ହେଇପାରେ, ମୁଁ ମୋ ମନୋଭାବ ଏବଂ ଜ୍ଞାନ ଉପଯୋଗ କରି ଇଂରାଜୀରେ ବିଶ୍ଳେଷଣ କରିବାକୁ ଚେଷ୍ଟା କରିଛି ।

ତୁ ପରା ବୋଲାଉ ଉତ୍କଳ ସନ୍ତାନ
ତେବେ କିମ୍ପା ତୁହି ଭୀରୁ,
ତୋହର ଜନନୀ ରୋଦନ କରିଲେ
କହିବାକୁ କିମ୍ପା ଡରୁ ?

If you are being called a child of Utkal (present-day Odisha),
then why are you a coward,
When your mother cries, why do you afraid to utter a word?

ତୋ ପୂର୍ବପୁରୁଷେ ବୀର ପଣିଆରେ
ଲଭିଥିଲେ କେତେ ଖ୍ୟାତି,
ହାକିମ ନିକଟେ ଦୁଃଖ କହିବାକୁ
କିମ୍ପା ଥରେ ତୋର ଛାତି ?

By their bravery, your ancestors earned so popularity,
Why does your chest shiver to intimate your pain to the authority (demanding what is rightfully yours)?

ତୋ ପୂର୍ବପୁରୁଷେ ଜୟ କରିଥିଲେ
ଗଙ୍ଗା ଠାରୁ ଗୋଦାବରୀ,
ତାଙ୍କର ଔରସେ ଜନ୍ମହୋଇ ତୁହି
କେଉଁଗୁଣେ ତାଙ୍କୁ ସରି ?

If your ancestors had conquered from the Ganges to the Godavari river,
By taking birth from them, in which way are you comparable either?

ତୁ ମନେ ଭାବିଛୁ ତୋଷାମଦ କରି
ବଢାଇବୁ ଜାତି ମାନ,
ତୋଷାମଦିଆର କୁକୁର ପ୍ରକୃତି
ଅଇଁଠା ପତରେ ଧ୍ୟାନ ।

You have thought that by using flattering, you will swell the pride of the nation,
Flattering is the behavior of a dog that gets what others have left.

ତୋଷାମଦକାରୀ କ୍ଷିପ୍ତ ଶ୍ୱାନ ପରି
ସହଜେ ଚିହ୍ନା ନ ଯାଏ,
ଭୃତ୍ୟଭାବ ଧରି ଗୋଡ ଚାଟୁ ଚାଟୁ
ବିଷ ଲେପି ଦେଇଥାଏ ।

A flattering person is a disguised dog, hard to get recognition,
while licking your leg as a servant, it will paste poison.

ତୋଷାମଦ ଅଟେ ଅନ୍ଧାର ଗୋହିରି
ସ୍ୱାର୍ଥ ତହିଁ ଲୁଚି ବସେ,
ସରଳ ପଥିକ ବାଟରେ ଭେଟିଲେ
ଅକାତରେ ତାକୁ ନାଶେ ।

Flattering is a dark tunnel where selfishness remains hidden,
when it meets any simple traveller, it kills them without hesitation!

ଜାତିର ଉନ୍ନତି ହେବ କିରେ ଭାଇ
ସ୍ୱାର୍ଥକୁ ଜଗତ ମଣି ?
ଗୋଦର ଗୋଡରେ ମାଉଁସ ଲାଗିଲେ
ଦେହର କି ଶୁଭ ଗଣି ?

Will the nation's progress ever happen if we take selfishness as the holy grail of the world,
Will it benefit his body if an Elephantiasis leg gets more flesh onward!

ଜାତିର ଉନ୍ନତି ସେ କାହୁଁ କରିବ
ସ୍ୱାର୍ଥେ ଯାର ବ୍ୟସ୍ତ ମନ,
ଶାଗୁଣା ବିଲୁଆ ଚିକିତ୍ସକ ହେଲେ
ଶବ କି ପାଇବ ପ୍ରାଣ ?

Why will they think about the nation's progress, whose minds are busy with selfishness?
If foxes and vultures (who eat the dead) become doctors, will the dead body be alive at once?

ଜାତି ନନ୍ଦିଘୋଷ ଚଳିବ କି ଭାଇ
ସ୍ୱାର୍ଥକୁ ସାରଥୀ କଲେ,
ଟାଣେ କିରେ ଗାଡି ଦାନାର ତୋବଡା
ଘୋଡା ମୁହେଁ ବନ୍ଧା ଥିଲେ ?

Will the Nandighosh chariot of the nation ever go if we make selfishness a driver
if a food sack is tied to a horse's face? Will it ever pull a cart?

Notes: Nandighosh is the chariot of Lord Shri Jagannath, the largest of the three chariots in Rath Yatra.

ସ୍ୱାର୍ଥର ବନିତା ଅଟେ ତୋଷାମଦ
ଭୟ ମିଥ୍ୟା ତାଙ୍କ ପୁତ୍ର
ରାଜ୍ୟରେ ବିପ୍ଳବ ନିଶ୍ଚୟ ଘଟିବ
ଏମାନେ ହେଲେ ଏକତ୍ର ।

The daughter of selfishness is Flattery; Fear and Lie are its sons
If they ever come together, there will be riots in the state.

ଉଠରେ ଉଠରେ ଉତ୍କଳ ସନ୍ତାନ
ଉଠିବୁ ତୁ କେତେ ଦିନେ
ପୂରୁବ ଗୌରବ ପୂରୁବ ସାହସ
ପଡିବ କି କେବେ ମନେ ?

Rise up rise up children of Utkal, when will you rise
Past glory and past bravery when will you remember?

ତୋହରି ଜନନୀ ବୀର ପ୍ରସବିନୀ
ଧୂଳିରେ ପଡିଛି ଦେଖ,
ଏହି ସମାଜରେ ଏ ମହୀ ମଧ୍ୟରେ
କିପରି ଦେଖାଉ ମୁଖ ?

Your mother who gave birth to heroes, fallen onto dusts
Do not you feel shame showing your face in this society and world?

ତୋ ପୂର୍ବ ପୁରୁଷ ସ୍ୱର୍ଗଧାମେ ଥାଇ
ଭୋଗୁଛନ୍ତି ମନସ୍ତାପ,
ତାଙ୍କରି ଜୀବନ କରି ବିସ୍ମରଣ
କରୁଛୁ ତୁ ମନସ୍ତାପ…!!!

Your ancestors are disappointed even there in heaven,
By forgetting their lifelong sacrifice, you are just in contrition!
